Niam Infrastructure has secured a €127m third closing for its Nordic infrastructure fund, with a significant commitment from the European Investment Fund (EIF). The EIF's cornerstone investment of €63m, supported by the InvestEU program, could increase to €75m in subsequent closings. The fund currently holds nine investments across four sectors and aims for a €200m final close by end of 2023.

With the third close of the Niam Infra Fund (“NIF”) NIF has more than doubled its commitments which enables us to continue deployment in both new investment opportunities as well as in our existing portfolio of high-performing infrastructure assets and portfolio companies. NIF focuses on asset aggregation and risk reduction in sustainable Nordic infrastructure. The fund was launched in June 2021 and has to date executed on nine investments across utility scale solar, commercial and industrial solar, EV charging and telecom. The fund will continue to raise capital and targets €200m in commitments by final close, which is expected to occur by the end of 2023.

The European Investment Fund has made a cornerstone commitment of up to €75m, using resources from the European Investment Bank and InvestEU, which helps generate additional funding for key European priorities such as the green and digital transition. In addition, several Nordic institutional investors have made commitments to the Fund.

Sverker Åkerblom, CEO of Niam Infrastructure:
“We continue to see significant investment opportunities across small and fragmented infrastructure assets to facilitate the energy and digital transition in the Nordics. We have already executed on nine investments to date and with the trust and support from the EIF we remain focused on deployment while we continue the capital raise towards our target of €200m.

Marjut Falkstedt, Chief Executive, European Investment Fund:
“We are happy to partner with the Niam Infrastructure Fund in its commitment to target several key sectors in need of investment, such as the energy transition, digital infrastructure, and sustainable transport, in a multitude of European countries. By supporting this type of strategy through the InvestEU programme, the EIF is strengthening its contribution to the EU’s green transition, which is a priority for the EIB Group.”
